AUDREY MÉZIL
Special Education Teacher
Audrey Mézil was born and raised in a small village in the south of France. She embarked on her educational journey after earning her degree in education. She made the move from Toulouse to the Paris suburbs, when she became a French government-certified primary school teacher in 2003. For over a decade, she taught in French elementary public schools, honing her skills and passion for education.
In 2014, Audrey’s journey took her across the Atlantic to the United States with her two children and husband by her side. She taught in French bilingual schools in Washington State, before and after-school programs (teaching French to native and non-native speakers) and served as a tutor through the specialized tutoring organization she created in 2018.
Her dedication led her to become a Montessori teacher for children aged 3 to 6 and 6 to 9. Initially motivated by her son’s disabilities, Audrey applied Montessori principles to benefit students with disabilities first and all her students later. Pedagogy, psychology, behavior and classroom management, neurosciences, disabilities, science of reading and special education ignite her curiosity and desire to learn more, so she actively seeks out professional development and learning opportunities in the domains she loves.
She firmly believes that every child possesses the potential to learn and progress, and educators play a crucial role in nurturing that potential. Audrey is committed to supporting her students by creating individualized learning plans that contribute to knowledge acquisition and emphasize their curiosity, motivation, and a genuine love of learning.
Currently, Audrey is pursuing a master’s degree in special education (with a focus on mild to moderate disabilities) through an American university. Additionally, she has embarked on a training program certification centered around phonics acquisition and reading methodology.
WHAT IS THE ONE ITEM YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT? WHY?
My phone! My phone brings me comfort, serving multiple purposes in my life: it’s an emergency lifeline, a means of contact with my loved ones, a source of relaxation through reading or music, an outlet for my boundless curiosity, and a carrier of memories through the many pictures I have taken.
