SOPHIE COFFINIERES
Librarian

Having lived in the United States since 2000 and making Seattle her home in 2008, Sophie Coffinières brings a rich background in bilingual education and a genuine love for French literature. In 2009, she co-founded EFGSeattle, an afterschool program that helps children learn French, where she served as Board President for 8 years.

In 2017, Sophie became the Owner and Manager of Les Petits Livres, a unique library with a vast collection of French children’s books & BD. As an avid reader herself, she is inspired by the amazing variety and creativity in youth literature. This journey makes her even more excited about reading and helps her discover new (and old) gems to share with families. She loves guiding them to stories that spark a love for reading and deepen their connection to the French language.

Now, as the school librarian at Les Lilas, she is excited to create a warm and inviting library space. She is eager not only to help children explore their school subjects in collaboration with teachers but also to help them find a variety of books they’ll love, inspiring a lifelong love of reading.

LET US KNOW WHICH CHARACTER FROM CLASSIC LITERATURE YOU FEEL CONNECTED TO AND WHY?

After much thought, I chose "Le Petit Chaperon Rouge" because she's a classic yet her story has really evolved over the years into a more adventurous, brave, and empowered character. Now, she often outsmarts the wolf herself! I love her strength and her adaptability while still keeping her original charm, and in that sense, it reflects my own growth.
